CIRCULAR 011/2018: LAW Nº 27,418 “MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT”

Tuesday, 2 January 2018

On 22nd December 2017 the Laws N° 27,418 and 27,419 – enacting the new “Merchant Shipping Act” passed by the Congress on 22nd November 2017 – was published in the Argentine Official Bulletin.

The Act targets the promotion of the Argentine shipping industry and affects, therefore, several aspects of the Argentinean Merchant Marine: from the administrative regime of the National flag to tax benefits. From a P&I perspective, perhaps the most relevant introductions are related to the limitation of liability of Crewmembers and Pilots (which used to be unlimited).

Ruggiero & Fernandez Llorente law firm analysed the new legislation and issued the Circular which can be found enclosed in the following link: https://goo.gl/nyudHL

We trust you find the Circular of interest and we remain at your disposal if clarification and/or further information is needed.

Yours faithfully
